COVID-19 CLAIMS ANOTHER TRACK TRADITION

25 Apr 2020 by Mike Burgess

First staged in 1895, the Penn Relays have always been held in spite of any global crisis.

Until this year.

America’s oldest and biggest track meet was supposed to be staged this weekend in Philadelphia. The Penn Relays, like most major sports worldwide, were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The three-day meet is held at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field. Nearly 50,000 spectators pack the stands each day to watch the events.

Here is what the track world is missing this weekend.
